What do I need to provide to get a web site online?
Businesses do need to provide me with a few things to get your website made.
These are:
- Your text to place on the site
- Your images to place on the site
- Your desired domain name (eg. mysite.com)
- The "purpose" of the site
While I am happy to work with however much material you provide me, in general the more content you provide me the better the site turns out.
If I have twenty images to choose the best from for the site, it makes it much more likely I will have one that suits. If I have twenty paragraphs of text, your text will be more informative to your visitors than only two paragraphs. Simple really.
Text for your site
When I first meet with you to discuss your requirements we will sketch an outline of what will appear on each page. This usually involves listing a few paragraphs that you need to write about your business.
Images and graphics for your site
In order to keep the maximum benefit of your existing advertising and promotional material, I need copies of such advertising. Any pamphlets, newspaper ads, leaflets, signage artwork, logos, photos of your business, or catalogues are all useful.
Domain Names
Choosing a domain name is vital for your website. Because it will be on all of your promotional material in the future, a snappy domain name is a must.
I am happy to provide guidance on this issue if you are unsure. If you have an existing domain name I am also able to use that regardless of who originally created it.
The purpose of the site
Websites can achieve many things depending on the focus of your site. An eCommerce site for new customers is created differently to a site that is just for company employees.
Most sites I build have the purpose of attracting new business through search engines, and optionally allowing them to buy online. It all depends on your personal goals.
